Ex-SJSU official pleads guilty, inappropriately touched woman athletes
Former San Jose State director of sports medicine, Scott Shaw, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts for inappropriately touching female athletes during supposed medical treatment.
Shaw faced accusations of touching breasts and buttocks of four student athletes without consent or legitimate purpose between 2017 and 2020.
He faces potential penalties of up to two years in prison, supervised release, restitution to victims, and a fine. Sentencing scheduled for November 14.
Shaw's initial federal case involving six counts ended in a mistrial 12 days prior due to a hung jury.
University officials resigned in 2021 due to allegations, and the university settled with 13 athletes for $1.6 million as part of a settlement involving the U.S. Justice Department and U.S. Attorney's Office.
